The Five

Five favorite aspects of the Bole Festival

1.  BOLE duh!

20171111_180825

As a true born Port Harcourt girl, I am totally in love with Bole so having so many vendors in one place was awesome. I stuffed myself till I could no longer eat.

2.    THE TURN OUT

20171111_171615

So many people came out for the festival, to be honest I did not expect such a crowd from Port Harcourt so I was really excited to see so many people out there. I guess it’s safe to say Port Harcourt is finally developing a social scene outside the bar.

3.  CREATIVITY

From the event concept, to the set up, to the artist’s performance, to the vendors to the almighty Bole Burger – the entire event was just a creative affair and I absolutely loved it.

4.     VIBE and STYLE

Everyone obviously got the memo that it was a fun fair and they came prepared. I actually spotted several people being very artistic with their fashion pieces.

5.    DAN DIZZZY

So this fellow is totally creative! I had heard him on the radio before but had no idea he was Port Harcourt based until I saw him at the #RSBloggerandCEOs hang out last month. His freestyle game is A1 and I’m sure Port Harcourt is proud of him.

Five things I learnt from The 36 Forum

WhatsApp Image 2017-10-12 at 2.36.40 PM

1

The internet never forgets.

Pay close attention to what you put up on your social media channels; view your accounts as representation of your brand. Nigeria needs social change if we are to achieve development and we need to drive this social change by our internet activities.

2

Do not be afraid to start small

Businesses do not usually start big; most times you start out with something small and watch it grow over time through smart work and dedication. Stop waiting for that big idea to come and start out with that seemingly small one you have, you will be surprised what you can achieve if you set your heart to it. Dream big, start small!

3

Invest In yourself

There is no bigger business venture than you.You must be willing to invest in yourself in order to reap future dividends. Attend training, take online courses, Read! Read! Read! Whatever you do, do not stop learning!

4

Decide who you want to be

It’s up to you and only you! Do not let anyone label you or put you in a box, decide by yourself who and what you are. Define your principles and values early enough and maintain them. Be sure of what you want to do and do not be easily swayed by public opinion. Remember that you are a brand and you should treat yourself that way.

5

Work thoroughly on your product

The more you panel beat your idea, the better it is. Before you start a business, conduct thorough research among your potential market and use data gathered to improve your product. The process of idealization lasts through out the life time of your product so never stop working on your product – keep reviewing and updating it continuously.

Five things to know before Marriage

20170929_215115

As with all showers, the friends of the bride (especially the married ones) took turns giving her advice based on their experience and these five stuck:

1.

DO NOT LOOSE YOURSELF

After marriage, there is a high tendency to relax and just let yourself go because ‘see finish’ sets in…. well, DON’T! remember who you are, the things you liked to do, the way you liked to look, the way you took care of yourself. Granted, it gets extremely overwhelming, especially after the kids start rolling in but you must make time for yourself in order to keep your sanity. Remember you can’t keep a healthy and happy home if you are not happy and healthy yourself.

2

PLAN YOUR FINANCES

You must learn to prioritize, if you did not pay attention in Economics class, well you better figure out a way to learn about scale of preference and opportunity cost. You need to carefully make financial decisions with your spouse, actually you need to make all decisions with your spouse…. ‘the two have become one’. Going off on your own to do random buys or on a shopping spree is a recipe for disaster. And NO! it does not matter if the money is all yours.

3

DO NOT GO IN EXPECTING YOUR SPOUSE TO CHANGE

Sorry hun, but what you see is what you get. They are not going to change after marriage, ‘I do’ is not a transformation spell that magically turns them into the ideal spouse. They are not going to get more loyal, or stop cheating, or stop beating you, or get more attracted to you or start treating you with respect. Soooo…. darling, if you do not like how they are currently, it’s best you do not head to the altar.

4

PROTECT YOUR SPOUSE

Protect your spouse from your family and from your friends…. do not go running your mouth to them about every little problem; because you might forgive your spouse out of love but they never will. Your friends and family will hold a grudge against your spouse for that little quarrel you had, remembering how you told them it made you feel long after you and your spouse have moved on and this will affect their relationship with him, it might even cause them to disrespect him or look down on him. Then you find yourself having to spend so much time trying to correct this problem. Remember that they are not in the marriage with you and only know what you tell them, even their interpretation of situations and body language will be based on what you’ve told them so be careful what that is.

5

UNDERSTANDING & FRIENDSHIP

Know our spouse, make them your best friend; love alone cannot sustain a marriage because love is unstable. There will be days when you might not be feeling the love, friendship will keep you going. Also, remember that no two relationships or marriages are the same – Do not try to copy anyone; figure out what works for you and your partner and stick with it. People are different so do not expect your partner to think or act like you, which is why you need to pay attention and study them in order to understand them.

Five tips on Poetry

image

1

POETRY IS A PLANT IN THE GARDEN

A plant can grow everywhere but what differentiates the ones growing in the garden from the ones growing on the roof, under water, on walls, etc is that the plant in the garden is carefully tended to. This basically means that poetry is planned.

2

KNOW YOUR FIGURES OF SPEECH

Figures of speech are what differentiate poetry from prose. Infusion of figurative expressions can convert an otherwise prosaic writing

3

TAKING YOUR POEM FROM PAGE TO STAGE

Infuse performance into your poetry, in order to give it life. Write with the aim of performing, pay attention to your progression, work on your delivery, command the stage

4

CONCEPTUALIZATION

Choose a clear concept for your message, avoid over crowding your poem by trying to pass too many messages with one poem

5

AUDIENCE

Know your expected audience, identify the reaction you expect from them and infuse this in your writing.

Five tips for Fashion Entrepreneurs

Some of the things I learnt from the Fashion Summit I attended this past week:

1

KNOW YOUR STUFF

Learn! Learn! Learn! you can never know enough so keep looking for new ways to learn. Do not be afraid to ask questions, remember: “he who asks questions never misses his way

2

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

Pay attention to details, details are what separate professionals from amateurs

3

ALWAYS HAVE FRESH IDEAS

Do something new, always go back to the drawing board to come up with new ways to express your brand

4

CONCEPTUALIZATION

Have a clear concept for your brand and build on this to form your brand identity. Do not go into any campaign blindly, every image you put out must identify with the concept of your brand

5

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography is extremely important for every fashion entrepreneur. You need a good fashion photography plan in order to sell your brand and not just the product. What kind of pictures do you have on your social media page? What do these pictures say about your brand?

Five things I just learnt about the color Pink

pink

1

The color pink is internationally recognized as the symbol of hope; the pink ribbon symbolizes awareness in the fight against cancer and the expectation of a soldier’s return from war

2

The color pink takes its name from the flowers called pinks, members of the Genus Dianthus.

3

In most European languages, pink is called rose or rosa, after the rose flower.

4

Pink is often associated with the exotic. Greater flamingos in flight over Pocharam Lake in Andhra Pradesh, India.

5

Pink is sometimes associated with extravagance and a wish to be noticed.
